Grilled Peaches and Cream Gelato – National Ice Cream Month

With summer in full swing that means we’re into serious ice cream weather,  what better way to beat the heat than with a bowl full of my grilled peaches and cream gelato!  And just in case you needed another reason July is National Ice Cream Month!

And what better way to celebrate National Ice Cream Month than with my friends at the Mid Atlantic Dairy Association.   Whether your favorite frozen treat is Ice Cream, Gelato,  or Frozen Yogurt, you can be sure that dairy products have played a part in those creamy frozen concoctions you’re sure to be enjoying over these summer months.

I think it’s safe to say that nothing beats a good peach, and while I’m still waiting for our local peaches, the early peaches I’ve been finding in the markets from different parts of the country have been outstanding!   Sweet and juicy full of flavor and with that excellent color and aroma, a peach is an all around perfect fruit.

Grilled Peaches and Cream Gelato
Prep time
Cook time
Total time
Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Serves: 4-6
  • 6 large peaches cut in half stone removed (2 cups fruit)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  1. Pre-heat your grill
  2. Using paper towels rub grates with oil so peaches do not stick
  3. Place peach halves on grill and allow to cook for 5-7 minutes or until the peach begins to get some color from the caramelization of the sugars
  4. Turn over and allow the skin side to grill for 5-7 minutes
  5. Remove from grill and carefully remove them skin from the peaches
  6. Place peaches in food processor and puree, refrigerate and allow to fully cool
  7. Place cream, milk, sugar and vanilla in a mixing bowl and using a wire whip mix until sugar is dissolved.
  8. Mix in peach puree and pour into your gelato or ice cream maker.
  9. Follow manufacturers instructions for your ice cream maker.
  10. Allow to fully freeze before serving.

You don’t have to grill your peaches to make my version of peach gelato, but the caramelization of the sugars does enhance the flavors, and takes it to another level of peachy goodness.   But if you can’t grill the peaches or if fresh peaches aren’t available in your part of the world, don’t let that stop you from trying this refreshingly delicious frozen treat.

So pull up a chair and enjoy a bowl full of my Peach Gelato as we celebrate National Ice Cream month.

  1. This sounds incredible Chef Dennis. As soon as our Colorado peaches arrive in our markets, i’ll be giving this a try. And I love that orange napkin. Great styling and photo.

  2. I love grilled peaches, fabulous gelato flavor!

  3. I ll suggest the recipe to my mum. We grow peaches in Europe and I think so my mother has forgotten to use her ice cream maker again. ^.^ Thanks for sharing, grilled sounds way better.

  4. WOW! Grilled peaches that go into ice cream? I think this is what heaven is made of.

  5. Oh my, this is so delicious. I can’t wait to get some fresh peaches and will try this recipe right away. Thanks for sharing! Happy summer, Chef Dennis 🙂

  6. This looks wonderful. Would soy or almond milk work in this recipe?

  7. Grilling and roasting fruit has opened so many flavors for me lately. This is a fantastic way to use peaches Dennis!

  8. Dennis, I picked up fresh peaches in Arkansas on the scenic route to MN and intended to grill them when I got there (swoon…) — nobody there had ever had a grilled peach! But the peaches ripened waaay too quickly and I ended up having to “punt” (made a pull-apart peach cobbler!) A scoop of your delectable gelato would have been perfect on top. Happy Ice Cream Month!

  9. I definitely agree with the fact that nothing beats a good ol’ peach! Gelato sounds amazing, happy Ice Cream Month! I’ll make sure to make the most of that!

I’ve just made Paleo, vegan grilled peaches with ice cream!

  10. This sounds so good. Wonderful peaches are arriving in MN now so,
this recipe is perfect timing. Can’t wait to try it.

  11. You had me at grilled peaches! This gelato is exactly what I’ve been craving. =]

  12. Chef Dennis:
Is there any apparent reason why dark brown sugar could not be used in this recipe? Thank you.

    • you can use dk brown sugar, the only real problem you could have would be it not dissolving fully. It will darken the mix so the color may not be as pleasing, and the brown sugar will alter the flavor a little but not necessarily in a bad way.
