I hate to admit that before I learned how to make this super easy recipe for honey mustard I was not a fan of this creamy sauce. But my homemade version of this classic dipping sauce has made me a honey mustard sauce convert!

I love this delicious sauce with my favorite chicken strips! And it’s also my favorite dipping sauce for grilled or roasted chicken and pork chops.

Ingredients

ingredients to make the recipe.

Let’s start by gathering the ingredients we need to make this sauce. In Chef Speak this is called the “Mise en Place” which translates to “Everything in its Place”.

Not only does setting your ingredients up ahead of time speed up the cooking process, it also helps ensure you have everything you need to make the dish.

  • yellow mustard
  • Dijon mustard
  • honey
  • mayonnaise
  • apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • seasonings

What can I substitute for mayonnaise in the honey mustard sauce?

If you’re not a fan of mayonnaise you can substitute Greek yogurt or sour cream in place of mayonnaise.

Can I make this into a salad dressing?

Yes, you can. By whisking one-quarter cup of vegetable oil into the mixture, you can easily make a honey mustard salad dressing. If you prefer a vinaigrette, leave out the mayonnaise.
