Dry Rub Ingredients

Ingredients to make the recipe.

Gather the ingredients to prepare our chicken wing dry rub recipe. Culinary professionals call this the “Mise en Place,” which means “everything in its Place.”

Setting up your ingredients not only helps speed up the cooking process but also ensures you have all the necessary ingredients on hand to make the recipe.

Can I change up the recipe?

Yes, you can. The best thing about making your own dry rub seasoning blend is that you control the ingredients. That way, you can adjust the ingredients or amounts to your family’s taste preferences.

Add onion powder or mustard powder to the seasoning mixture for a more robust flavor. Add one teaspoon of baking powder to the seasoning blend for extra crispy skin.

For a smokier flavor, replace the regular paprika with smoked paprika. To make a liquid marinade, add a tablespoon of olive oil to our homemade dry rub and mix together.

If you want to add some heat to your wings, add chili powder or cayenne pepper to the mixture.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use the seasoning with other cooking methods?

Yes, you can. Our homemade dry rub for chicken wings will also work with chicken cooked in an air fryer, instant pot, slow cooker, on the grill, or smoker.

Can I season wings with the dry rub and still use buffalo sauce?

Absolutely. For killer buffalo wings with tons of flavor, use our dry rub seasoning and let the chicken marinate for an hour or two before cooking them.
