Sweet potato fries offer a unique twist to traditional French fries with their sweet and earthy taste. They’re also rich in vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants.

And cooking them in an air fryer helps keep these delicious fries healthy, as opposed to frying them.

A combination of simple seasonings will make these sweet potato fries a great addition to any meal. This recipe is easily adaptable, letting you season the fries to your family’s taste preference.

If you love potatoes, make sure to check out my rosemary roasted potatoes and roasted potato wedges. Both recipes can easily be made in your air fryer.

Ingredients to make Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

Ingredients to make recipe.

Let’s start by gathering the ingredients we need to make my easy air fryer sweet potato fries recipe. In Chef Speak, this is called the Mise en Place, which translates into Everything in its Place.

Not only does setting your ingredients up ahead of time speed the cooking process, but it also helps ensure you have everything you need to make the dish.

Can I change the seasonings?

Absolutely. Some other seasonings you might enjoy are cinnamon, nutmeg, and a little brown sugar for more of a fall flavor. You can also use pumpkin pie spice or apple pie seasoning to make this recipe.

For a touch of heat, add a little cayenne pepper. Or go more traditional by using a seasoning blend made up of salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. It’s all about using seasonings you enjoy.

  • Place the cut fries in a large bowl with cold water for 30 minutes.
*If you’re short on time, this step can be skipped, but soaking will remove the excess starch, giving them a crunchier, crisper texture.
  • Dry the fries with paper towels and place them in a large bowl or dish.
  • Drizzle the olive oil over the fries and toss to coat them.
  • Sprinkle the seasoning over the olive oil coated fries and toss to combine, coating the fries.

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees and spray the basket with a non-stick cooking spray.

  • Add the seasoned sweet potato fries in a single layer to the preheated air fryer basket.
*Make sure not to overcrowd the basket.
  • Cook the sweet potato fries at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
*For crisper fries, turn them over halfway through the cooking process.

You can also cook the sweet potato fries in your oven. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Place the fries on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet (or directly on a foil or parchment-lined baking sheet) and bake for 20 minutes.

Store any leftover fries refrigerated in an airtight container for 1-2 days. Reheat in the air fryer or a 400-degree oven.

Recipe FAQ’s

Why should I soak sweet potato fries before cooking?

Soaking the fries for 15 -30 minutes before cooking will help remove the excess starch, resulting in crisper, crunchier fries.

Why are my sweet potato fries soggy?

It’s important to remove as much moisture from the fries before seasoning. Drying them with paper towels after soaking will help.
Also, overcrowding the basket will keep them from crisping properly. Leaving a little space between each of the fries is the best way to cook them.

Can you eat sweet potato skin?

Absolutely. The skin is a good source of fiber and nutrients. The skins also help you feel fuller after consuming them.
