Everyone loves fried chicken tenders, and there’s no better dipping sauce than the legendary Cane’s chicken sauce recipe.

Raising Cane’s signature chicken sauce, aka “Cane’s Sauce,” is creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet, with a subtle peppery flavor.

This once-secret recipe was crafted as the perfect condiment for Raising Cane’s chicken sandwich, but it can be used for so much more.

Often compared to comeback sauce, Cane’s Chicken Sauce recipe bears a resemblance to Thousand Island and Russian dressing, but its unique blend of flavors will make you realize there’s nothing else quite like it.

But Cane’s Sauce isn’t only for chicken; it goes well with fried shrimp, fried fish, cauliflower bites, and French fries. I’ll let you in on a little secret: it makes a pretty darn good burger sauce, too.

Ingredients

Ingredients to make the recipe.

Gather the ingredients to prepare our Cane’s Chicken Sauce recipe. Culinary professionals call this the “Mise en Place,” which means “everything in its Place.”

Setting up your ingredients not only helps speed up the cooking process but also ensures you have all the necessary ingredients on hand to make the recipe.

Can I Adjust the Recipe?

Of course, you can, but any changes you make will alter its signature flavor.

If you prefer a crisp, bright flavor, add lemon juice to the mixture. To achieve more of a tomato-based flavor, double the amount of ketchup in the recipe or add a tablespoon of tomato paste.

Cane’s chicken sauce is mildly spicy, but if you like a spicier sauce, add your favorite hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the mix.

Sour cream can be used instead of mayonnaise in the recipe; it will add another dimension to the flavor, but it won’t quite be the same.

  • Add the mayonnaise, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce to a bowl
  • Whisk to combine the ingredients.
  • Add the garlic powder, coarse black pepper, and salt to the creamy mixture.
  • Whisk to combine the ingredients.

If time permits, make Cane’s sauce at least two hours ahead of time. But if you want the flavors to meld and deepen, creating its distinctive taste, let it sit overnight. That, my friends, is the secret to making Cane’s Sauce.

Recipe FAQs

What does Cane’s Sauce taste like?

It’s got a unique flavor profile that starts off tangy and is followed by a subtle peppery warmth. It’s not overly spicy, but the flavor does have a zesty edge. But not to worry; the slightly sweet flavor balances the sauce. Don’t think of it as a “hot” sauce, think of it as a super-charged, gourmet fry sauce!

Can I freeze the sauce?

Mayonnaise-based sauces do not freeze well. They tend to separate when thawed, creating an oily, unappetizing mess.
