Ingredients

Ingredients to make the recipe.

Gather the ingredients to prepare our Easy Honey Garlic Pork Chops recipe. Culinary professionals call this the “Mise en Place,” which means “everything in its Place.”

Setting up your ingredients not only helps speed up the cooking process but also ensures you have all the necessary ingredients on hand to make the recipe.

Can I adjust the recipe?

Absolutely. We used bone-in pork chops for the recipe, but boneless chops can also be used. You can also slice a pork loin into ¾-inch slices and cook them following the recipe. Country-style ribs and thin-cut chops can also be used, but the cooking times will vary.

Fresh garlic cloves were used to make the honey garlic sauce, but garlic powder or shallots can be used instead. To add a little heat to the sauce, add red pepper flakes or your favorite sauce to the glaze.

To make a thicker sauce, use a cornstarch slurry added to the soy sauce and apple cider vinegar.

How to Make Honey Garlic Pork Chops

Follow along with my simple step-by-step instructions to learn how to make honey garlic pork chops in your home kitchen.

Remove the pork chops from the refrigerator half an hour before cooking to allow them to come to room temperature.

  • Add the kosher salt and coarse black pepper to a small bowl.
  • Mix to combine.
  • Pat the pork chops with a paper towel to remove any moisture.
  • Season both sides of the pork chop with the seasoning mixture.
  • Add three tablespoons of butter to a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the butter has melted, add the pork chops to the skillet and cook for 3 – 4 minutes.
  • Flip the pork chops to the other side and cook for another 3-4 minutes until golden brown.

Remove the pork chops from the pan and lightly tent with aluminum foil.

  • Add the fresh garlic and the last tablespoon of butter to the same pan over medium heat.
  • Mix the garlic around as the butter melts and cook until it becomes fragrant.
  • Add the apple cider vinegar, low-sodium soy sauce (or regular soy sauce), and honey to the pan. Mix the ingredients together until well blended, scraping the bottom of the pan to loosen the little brown bits stuck to it.
  • Let the sauce cook for 1-2 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
  • Add the pork chops back to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes in the honey garlic sauce.
  • Turn the chops over and cook for 2-3 minutes until they reach an internal temperature of 150 degrees F.
*If the sauce gets too thick, add a little water to the pan

*Use an instant-read thermometer to check the temperature.

Chef Tip:

You can use whole garlic cloves if you want garlic flavor, but not the little bits in the sauce. Roasted garlic cloves will add all the flavor without the heat.

How to Store and Reheat

Any leftover pork chops should be stored refrigerated in an airtight container or well covered with plastic wrap for 2-3 days. They can also be frozen for up to two months.

To reheat, cover with foil and heat in a 350°F oven until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. They can also be heated in a frying pan over medium heat. When reheating, add water to the leftover sauce, or make additional sauce for serving.

Recipe FAQs

What should I serve with honey garlic pork chops?

Broccoli or green beans are good options, as they add color to the plate, but any of your favorite vegetables will work. We served it with white long-grain rice; you could use brown rice or your favorite grain. You can also serve mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, or steak fries.

Do I have to use butter to sauté the chops?

No, you don’t, but butter will yield the best results. Olive oil or vegetable oil can be used to cook the pork chops, but the sauce will be oily and may not thicken properly.
