What could be better than springtime in picturesque North Carolina? And thanks to the folks at Visit Greensboro I’ve been given the opportunity to explore and enjoy their beautiful city like a local. Centrally located in North Carolina’s picturesque heartland, Greensboro is the perfect place to relax and be immersed in southern tradition with entertainment, food and drink.
Do you have fun planning your trips? If you said no then perhaps you need to rethink your process.
For me, research and planning my trip is almost as much fun as taking the trip. I love learning about the areas I’m going to visit and planning the route I’ll be taking, right down to the stops I’ll be making along the way. Approaching a destination through the eyes of a local can make your trip easier and much more memorable. Of course, it’s the unexpected surprises we find while traveling that make the trip extra special.
So let’s learn a little bit about our travel destination as we plan our trip. Did you know that Greensboro is the third-largest city in North Carolina? And that it offers visitors a variety of attractions, museums, and gardens to visit during their stay? Who knew there would be so much to do when you Visit Greensboro!
The area is steeped in history which begins long before the Revolutionary War Days when American Patriot Major General Nathanael Greene led the North Carolina troops against Lord Cornwallis in the battle of Guilford Courthouse.
The cities rich history continues throughout the years right up to the Civil Rights Movement of the sixties when the Greensboro Four, sat down at the “whites-only” lunch counter and began America’s sit-in movement that sparked a nationwide push for equality and justice for all.
With more than 500 restaurants and 87 lodging choices to choose from Greensboro oozes southern hospitality at every turn. The unique dining options, craft breweries and distillery makes Greensboro a culinary mecca. And if you came to Greensboro for no other reason, come to eat and drink….. it’s a foodie paradise.
You can choose from traditional southern fare at many of the area restaurants. You’ll find masterfully prepared Southern cuisine means comfort food at its highest level.
Or choose from the non-traditional eateries that will amaze you with their eclectic and delicious dishes.
And if you want breakfast all day or biscuits the size of a cat’s head you’ll find more delicious locations to choose from.
And then there are the breweries…..sigh. They also have a distillery that makes Vodka, Gin and Whiskey.
Of course, you’ve got every type of outdoor activity you could want from Hiking to Kayaking with a world class water park thrown in for good measure. Greensboro isn’t just a city, it’s a destination and one that you’ll want to visit time and time again.
